NOT SURE IF ITS ANY FASTER
Any suggestions on telling if its speeding up my port speed?
2001/10/31(Wed) 15:02 Wes <weslucky@hotmail.com>I have this problem also,, was in another post
shsmod V1.7a (29-Aug-1998)
SMC37b80x at 03f0h detected
SMC/AMI Patch driver detected
Port1(03f8h) Serial Speed Mode: High
Port2 disabled
comment:
When I load the patch everything appears ok.
When I restart my win98 and invoke my modem, it can not be found. When I
uninstall shsmod it works fine.
Note , have noticed that with all settings at 230400 it wont work,, but if I go in after all of the setup and patches and change the modem properties back to 115200 in the dialup properties only then it will connect,, otherwise it says hardware error couldnt connect to modem.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. weslucky@hotmail.com

2001/02/06(Tue) 06:10 Jo MamaSan <jomama@gmx.net>Mkbootcd and 2.88 floppy image
I have successfully gotten all of the 1.44 Mb images to boot. I took an image from a 2.88 floppy drive. My settings for those images were:
-T3
-C1
bigimage.ima
During the boot process the initial boot info will flash on the screen..
"Starting MS DOS"
then hang.
are these the correct settings?
2000/11/07(Tue) 22:12 DR <natha@image.dk>shsmod ver 1.7c - modem not recognized
hello, i just dl shsmod ver 1.7c for my Winbond W83977EF chip.
installation worked fine, com1 (mouse) is low, com2 (modem) is high.
problem: computer does not recognize the modem any more (it says there
are no modems installed)
i have an isdn line with Eicon DIVA T-A modem, and i run windows 98
first edition
i noticed that in the Properties tab of my internet connection there are
TWO modems listed:
Eicon DIVA T_A ISDN Modem (which is not recognized, saying that is not
installed)
Eicon DIVA T_A ISDN Modem Pnp (which is recognized as installed)
i went to the registry at
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Modem\" and
i had two listings of modems. I deleted the one with Eicon DIVA T_A
ISDN Modem (labelled "0000") and left the other one (labelled "0001").
After reboot, in the Properties of my internet connection are still
listed two modems. internet connection works fine.
any ideas highly appreciated

2000/05/24(Wed) 11:25 Curtis <CLPEA1@worldspy.net>shs17.zip(SHSMOD V1.7) Aug/29/1998 For Win95/98
My sys: IBM Aptiva 2142S62. Pentium II with MMX. Purchased in Dec 1997
Win95B, OSR2.1
Modem: Lucent WinModem 56KFlex; current drivers are V-90,
Located on COM1
-----------------------
I installed SHSMOD on my system May/23/2000
I followed Instructs per the Readme for SHS17.ZIP 25-Aug-98 file.
Info shown on my MS-DOS window was the same as indicated in this file.
-- But info in my win95 Regedit was different than what you gave in the
Apendix "How To Change Modem Data Rate in Windows 95"
You said, Search COMx with regrdit,
It's found in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINES_\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Modem\nnnn\attachto
and under bps 57,600 through 921,600 etc.
-----------
I did a seach for COM1 (port for my modem)and did not come up with that info/
Here is what my search showed:

My com2 port setting (from Sys Properties/Device Mngr)Shows in the Bits/second
box:230400, 46800,921600.
I cannot find this info for COM1. As you know in Win95, Only the Unassigned
com ports shows, the COM port in use does NOT show in the Sys Properties Device
Manger tab windows.
So, How Do I Get This Changed In Win95?

The winbond 83877F,83877AF don't have high-speed mode.
You find no suitable divisor value for UART x16 clock, If you check data sheet
carefuly.
The 83877TF,83877ATF are able to set suitable divisor value.

I have a FIC VA 503+ mainboard and I used this utility and it does increase my uart speed but I am getting A slower connection speed when its enabled
according to my modem diagnostic my max connection speed is now 33.6 as aposed to the 115200 I get when its not enabled. another issue is that windows continues to say its still using a 16550 uart in its modem diagnostics utility. this should say 17550 should it not? after all that is the max speed of my bios chip acording to winbound.
also when I attempt to set my bits per sec rate to 230400 my modem will not connect at all.
I have a diamond supra express external modem & I don't understand this its onboard uart is capable of a 230k DTE rate acording to diamond.
please HELP I don't get it!

This beta version is giving an error, while shs17d does not give an error.
Also, shsmod should have a way of patching the serial.vxd even when a compatible chipset is not detected. Then people with compatible internal modems but incompatible com port chipsets could also take advantage of over 115k.
Anyone having trouble making regedits for over 115k and people needing a patched serial.vxd file, since they can't patch it with shsmod, check my web site for more info at http://www.downloadit.gr/~v_laessig

Before and after the install i could set the max. speed to the modem to 460800.
But before and after the install I got the same speed when I chek the the modem
115200.
My isdn modem i a zyxel omni net plus, the serial port on the modem can run at
460800.
I use windows 95 OS2.
Can the ali m5133 run faster than 115200?

I posted a copy of shsmod V1.7c on my web page for download, since this site gives an error on that link. I also have written a small utility called Powerup Com for win95/98 to tweak the registry to allow over 115k max port speeds. See my web site for additional instructions and some screenshots of my registry settings if you are having trouble getting over 115k to work.

Hi!
I am using shsmod on my Notebook and I have a problem.
Sometimes while sending data the sending stops and no data could be send anymore.
The Error is that there is a timeout because of the Output-Buffer not getting empty.
But looking at the output-buffer-counter, it says there are no bytes to send left.
This happens only at speeds higher than 115200.
It is impossible to send more data until reconfiguration of the serial port.
Second thing:
Why haven't you enabled the 32-Byte FIFO on the NS PC87338?
Just change

But I can only get maximum of 115200bps, even though all my settings (e.g com2 port and even win.ini setting are set to 921600bps.
I was wondering, since my Mboard can support up to 921600bps, is it possible to boost it up to that speed?
Am using Aztech 56K modem over normal telephone line.
And thanks for the great software.

Using the Control Panel, I was able to set COM1 to 921,600. Formerly it was set at 115,200. COM2 does not show in the Control Panel. I use COM2 for my internal modem.

The result is: The some type of RS232C buffer can't drive in higher speed.
I could not recommend chip for over115K because too few report.
Unfortunately, we can't determine what kind of buffer is on board by software.
Mr.takeuchi exchange his RS232C buffer to Hi-speed one. He got good result.

Looking on the serial port with an oscilloscope, I can see that the signal quality is very very bad.
230400 works with errors (many), everything over 230400 - forget it.
Is this normal with this MB?
On my notebook (NS PC87338 chip) everything works up to 921600 without any problems...

There is a NT4.0 editions for SMC chip on x86 architecture.
It doesn't support other chip maker and another architecture.
It was made from old source code that was included in DDK sample.
If you have DDK and compiler for alfa the porting is not so difficult

The 1.8 beta now recognised the port adresses for both COM ports, but it still

I tried version 1.7a but it could not recognise the port adresses. Also when I use

By the way I am running W95 US edition.

ok, first off, I have an ( LT 56k Win modem )
for this modem to work on com2 win win95
the comm port must be disabled in the bios
before the machine starts, or windows won't
configure the modem and port properly
SO in order for this program to work in win95
when the port is active the program must be
started of ran after win95 starts and sets up
the ports, now, the program did do what it was
made to do, good job, My mouse is on com 1
when i ran the program from my autoexec.bat
default settings, the mouse locked up, the mouse
driver it self can not handly the speed, Now if
you can get the program to run after win95, and
set the speed to high, then i like to test it
and see how it turns out, most win modems are
ran from software type programing, that might
speed up the modem it self, ok, let me what you
all think, tardjr@hotmail.com

Hello Rulph.
The SHS V1.7 isn't able to support serial port that provided by WinBond or NS
chip and serial port that provided by ordinary chip simultaneously.
It is mainly code space problem, because SHS is only patch.
I'd like to know how to assign driver for supported chip only.

If so, you must pay attention to the copyright.
First of all you take out the ISO image from CD with winimage.
The ISO image is verifyed with mkbootcd to display the position and size of bootimage.
Take out the part with the binary editor like hexedit.

Q. Does this program help throughput of data with v90 modems or is 115200 already fast enough?
A. If your modem reaches maximum compression ratio at max speed, 115200 is too slow.
But it depends your modem, line, machine, provider conditions.
98/11/11(Wed) 00:24 gigo <gigo@yk.rim.or.jp>FAQ 6)
Q. After running the program, I get confirmation that the ports are set to high. However my control
panel - modem - properties - maximum speed is still 115200 and cannot be set any higher. Does this
mean that the modem will not communicate above this speed despite the setting being higher under the
comm port setting?
A. Once again, The properties no exact relation of actual speed.
If your modem's modem.inf not support over115K, you must edit it.
98/11/11(Wed) 00:22 gigo <gigo@yk.rim.or.jp>FAQ 5)
Q.Looking in control panel - system - comm port properties I already have
option for 230400/460800/921600 bps. Do I need to use your program?
A.The properties no relation of actual speed.
If you want know actual speed, connect your modem with hyperterminal
and check DTE speed. Almost modem respond it by "AT\S" command.
caution:
The hyperterminal's baudrate not change at when properties was changed.
It is change made at connect. If the DTE speed not same as properties,
disconnect and connect again.

reported some kind of windbond chip installed

After installing the software I could set the

comment:
What happened for me was that my ports stopped working altogether after
installing this program. My 3Com Impact IQ could no longer talk to the port,
even when turned back down to 115K. Worse, something was polling my system
every 3 seconds or so. This would lock up my video and cause my sound to skip.
This happened all the time, but was particularly insidious when trying to play
games. They would pause at this regular 3 second intervals. Remming out the
line in the autoexec did not fix the problem. Uninstalling the software did fix the
problem.
My system is as follows:

PCI slot2: Diamond Monster Voodoo 1
PCI slot3: Magicwave Vortex based soundcard

I downloaded and installed the shdmod exec for win 95 and I got the following.
Port 1 is high and port two is disabled. My 56k modem is connecting only at
31200. I attempted to edit the registry using the appended suggestions in
the installation doc and as suggested I looked for the Com(x)..or in my case
com1 where my 56k modem is attached (as per the modems icon in the control
panel). My problem: (1)After looking in regedit the .../class/modem/nnnn
(i looked at both 0000 and 0002) i did not find the attachto to edit the
bps and value as was suggested in the doc.. (2)My next question is what does
the nnnn refer to? I am assuming it refers to the com port number ... If
that is the case then 0000 is com port(1) and 0002 is comp port(2)..Is this
correct? If so, the data in regedit referring to my 56k modem is in 0002 or
com port(2). Could this be the reason i am connecting at 31200? I noticed
the modem response values in 0001 (where my 56k modem is goes up to 33600
only whereas in 0002 my modem response values go to 56000.
In summary:
As per control panel\modems - com1 is where the 56k modem is.
As per regedit ... class\modem (nnnn) 0000 modem values go to 33600.
As per regedit ... class\modem (nnnn) 0002 modem values go to 56000.
As per shsmod.exe port1 = high, port2 disabled.
Question: Where is my 56k modem really attached to (as per regedit 0000 or
0002)? If 0002, how do I enable 0002? If 0000, how to i get my
regit edit to recognize the 56k modem? Thanks in advance for your
help.

HI, I installed SHSMOD 1.7 and the installation went without a problem. The
ports were detected and set to high speed at Dos. But my modem just doesn't
respond to the higher speeds. My chips are SMC37C669 and I changed the registry
to 460,800 as suggested in SHSMOD instructions and also set the modem to that
speed together with the serial ports speed in device manager but win95 gives a
'No response from modem' message. My modem is a Well X2 (USR 56K X2 compatible).
I have no problems if I set it back to 115200. Can someone advice?

I don't do that. The reason is I think I'm not only person who can do it.
There are the persons who are reporting that it already succeeded.
And I don't have Easy CD-Creator3.5.
My present priority in hobby time is as follows :
1. IR-remote function implementation for Garmin'Me.
Garmin'Me is conversion hardware for NMEA GPS format to SONY IPS GPS format.
That was made by me. The related pages are Japanese only.
2. Drive.
Fall of Japan is a very good season.
And I had bought a new car, HONDA integra 98Spec.R :-)
3. The SHSMODE utility version 1.7a for NT.
As for this, there are dozens of requests already.
Anyone other than my friends, son and daughter can not change this priority.
And, I am working hard till late night because I am Japanese. :-):-)
Accordingly there is only one method.
The method is that you become my friend.
It is not difficult.
Do contribution. that is way to my friend.
